My name is Fatuma Abdi. I am the mother of six children and we live…
AMINA ABDALLAH
My name is Amina Abdallah from Dabel in Moyale Sub-County. I lost my husband one year ago when he died at the hands of rebels who ambushed him on his way to work. After my husband’s death, providing for my children has been incredibly challenging. My three sons and I get wake up early in the morning to look for hay that we can sell to people who want to thatch the roofs of their houses or feed it to their animals. In the afternoon, we break stones to make ballast that I can sell to get money for food.
Just as my hope was diminishing, the Goat Project team provided me with two expecting goats that, in two months’ time, will give birth. This is a great comfort as it takes away the suffering and pain my children and I have endured for so many years. My youngest daughter, Halima, will soon get a cup of nutritious goat’s milk every day, which will restore her deteriorated health. I will sell the surplus milk for money to buy beans, maize meal and vegetables to supplement our meals. I will buy books, pens, pencils, and erasers for them with the money from selling milk products such as homemade ghee in our local market. Just as you have shown my family kindness and love, I will give the goats’ kids to Maimuna, who is widow just like me.
